For too many years clubs in the Finglas area had been competing against each other for resources and the area had not produced the levels of success that a hotbed of soccer like Finglas West should.
While there had been some limited successes both at schoolboys and junior levels, these have never been sustained and too often players had signed for clubs outside the area to achieve success and clubs in Finglas have not really been able to compete against the so called bigger clubs.
Over the many years amalgamations had been spoken of numerous times and finally it was felt that there was a willingness on everyone’s behalf to make it work.
The club was launched in January 2015 by Mr. John Delaney, CEO of the F.A.I. where he complimented both clubs on their bold move and spoke of the need for similar mergers of clubs right across the city to enable clubs to build bigger and better organisations in the one area rather than competing against each other for facilities, finances and personnel.
Other guest speakers included Mr. Tony Martin, President of the A.U.L., Mr. Fran Ray, Secretary of the D.D.S.L and Mr. Barney Blood, President of the Leinster Football Association. The amalgamation has the full backing of Dublin City Council and indeed their continued support was perhaps the tipping point in getting this over the finish line.
